The Cosmic Jackalope Dream Guide

Installation artwork has always struck me for its ability to change and warp the environment in which we find ourselves, elevating our imaginations and speaking to new worlds of possibility. The Jackalope Adventure Guide is, for me, a love letter to that magical experience of the Playa where coincidence and destiny meet and we find ourselves following a path that brings about unexpected adventure and delight. It is a vision into the fantastical realms of the imagination and I mean it to inspire and delight that part of our nature that exists beyond the mundane. As we face uncertainty and hardship in our daily lives, we must not let go of our wonder, our amazement and our myths. For they are a reflection and an extension of our higher selves, and through their guidance we find the path that we always held within us.

The Jackalope Dream Guide is an interactive art installation that provides the answer to that age old question of those who wander the Playa: where do we go next? Summoned to stand before the Cosmic Jackalope by the pulsing, glowing crystals and hypnotic color patterning of its hide, Travelers will find themselves presented with a Control Panel featuring 10 buttons, each with a Symbol of the Unconscious. Instructed by ancient script to choose and press, in order of most important, 3 of these buttons, the Traveling Party will be astonished as the Misdirectional Arrows around the Jackalope light up then fade in succession, each sounding one of the notes that originally called the Jackalope into existence. Upon the completion of several revolutions, the light and tone will settle upon one Arrow, which will pulse, letting the Party know to what direction they should continue their adventure.

The Jackalope Dream Guide is a 6ft tall sculpture, in the carved wood style, of a green and blue Jackalope with crystalline antlers and clusters of crystals growing from its skin. In its hands it holds the full moon, and it sits upon a 4ft tall Plinth of wood and dreamscape stone. Before the Jackalope, a Control Panel with 10 buttons, each with a unique Symbol of the Unconscious, awaits the input of a Traveling Party. Surrounding the Jackalope, 7 Arrows of Misdirection await the opportunity to point the Traveling Party toward their next destination.

Arrows: wood, with LED carnival bulbs, pointed in all direction
